Today, we got up early to make the trip to NYC. Darrell and Bob planned it so we would go out the inlet on the falling tide and arrive in NY on a rising tide. It's about 58 miles. This is the first bridge of the Point Pleasant Canal we had to go through. It's only about 6 miles to the inlet.
We had to go through this narrow railroad bridge on the Mannesquan River---sur
Sure enough--we didn't meet any boats for the first five miles until we got to this bridge...then here they all are !
This statue of a mariner is just at the outlet. It was a beautiful day-sunny, calm, just a gentle ride-except when some hot dog would pass us and throw a big wake !
We passed this Navesink lighthouse on the way...it's just south of Sandy Hook, NJ.
Here we are passing Coney Island.
This is the Verazanno suspension bridge into the NY harbor--it's one of the longest in the country. A double decker with truck traffic on top and cars on the lower.
Here we are passing the Statue of Liberty...what a thrill and such a perfect day for this !
Berge's and us took turns passing and taking pictures of the other.
And last, the Lady Liberty by herself.
Tonight, we are anchored in the Liberty Landing park and we'll celebrate with Darrell and Beth. Dinner will be an all American meal of hamburgers, accompanied by a bottle of champagne.
